The All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA Camp in Emlenton, PA, recently hosted a heartwarming youth event known as the Mommy&Me Daddy&Me Encampment. This gathering brought together families and children for a time of spiritual growth, fellowship, and fun.
The highlight of the encampment was the visit from His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, who was accompanied by two subdeacons Mykola Stefanyk and Yurii Izhyk – seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary of the UOC of the USA. Their presence brought a deep sense of spiritual connection and guidance to the event. Archbishop Daniel’s visit underscored the importance of maintaining the Orthodox culture and nurturing a “small home church” environment, especially in today’s society where moral and social standards are constantly evolving.
Upon arrival, Archbishop Daniel was warmly welcomed by Very Rev. Fr. Vasyl Pasakas, the spiritual father of the encampment, and co-Directors Kira Senedak and Denise Strashinsky. Both expressed their heartfelt gratitude for his visit and the spiritual support he provided. Fr. Vasyl highlighted the significance of the encampment in fostering the development and spiritual growth of the youth in the church.
Archbishop Daniel began his visit by blessing all the children and parents present. This blessing set a positive and sacred tone for the rest of the encampment. Following the blessing, the Archbishop participated in a prayer trail walk. Guided by the camp counselors, he took the time to listen to the children's thoughts and prayers, offering his own reflections and blessings along the way.
The prayer trail walk was a serene and reflective activity, allowing families to connect with nature and their faith. It provided a moment of peace and contemplation amidst the busy camp schedule.
After the walk, everyone gathered for lunch. Archbishop Daniel shared a meal with the children and parents, fostering a sense of community and togetherness. During lunch, he took the opportunity to engage in conversations with the campers, listening to their stories and experiences.
In a gesture of kindness and generosity, Archbishop Daniel presented gifts to all the campers. These gifts served as a memento of the encampment and a reminder of the spiritual journey they embarked on together.
Towards the end of his visit, Archbishop Daniel spoke with All Saints Camp Director, Mr. Joshua Oryhon. Their discussion focused on the ministry of the camp and the vital role it plays in the spiritual development of the youth. Archbishop Daniel emphasized the importance of camping ministry as a means of nurturing faith, building community, and instilling values in the younger generation.
The Mommy&Me Daddy&Me Encampment at All Saints UOC of the USA Camp was a remarkable event that brought families closer to their faith and each other.
Events like this encampment are crucial in today’s world, offering a sanctuary for families to reconnect with their faith and with one another. They provide a foundation for the “small home church” environment, where families can continue to grow spiritually amidst the challenges of modern society.
The encampment concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and faith, as families returned home, carrying with them the blessings and teachings of the weekend. The All Saints UOC of the USA Camp continues to be a beacon of spiritual growth and community, fostering the development of the youth and strengthening the bonds of family and faith.
